Current Issue
This special issue of the Journal of Military and Strategic Studies examines how non-traditional security challenges are reshaping the Indo-Pacific strategic environment and redefining Canada’s engagement with the region. Originating from the 2025 Thompson Rivers University conference “Building Resilience: Canada’s Engagement with the Indo-Pacific on Non-Traditional Security Threats,” the collection brings together interdisciplinary perspectives that collectively rethink the relationship between governance, resilience, and security in an increasingly uncertain global order. The articles in this special issue argue that contemporary Indo-Pacific security can no longer be adequately understood through narrow military-centric frameworks as governance fragility and transnational risk increasingly interact in mutually reinforcing ways. Security in the region increasingly depends upon institutional resilience, cooperative governance, and the ability of states and societies to manage interconnected vulnerabilities across political, environmental, economic, and societal domains.
