Abstract

This article presents empirical evidence documenting how the Canadian Rangers present in Canada’s North are described in the Canadian press from 2000 to 2024. Analysing more than 1000 journalistic reports, we report significant differences in coverage between Southern and Northern media outlets, with the latter presenting more accurately the full spectrum of tasks that the Canadian Rangers perform. We argue that southern media outlets should strike collaboration partnerships with Northern outlets in order to improve their coverage of Northern issues away from am overwhelming emphasis on sovereignty issues.
