Dr. Harvey Smith, University of Calgary

Dr. Smith enlisted in the Canadian Forces in 1969, and was commissioned in 1972. For the next 17 years he served in aerospace engineering, personnel selection, and health services roles. Dr. Smith retired from the Forces in 1989, and for the next 10 years worked in clinical and program development roles with the Alberta Alcohol and Drug Abuse commission. In 1997, he completed his doctorate in Medical Science (Behavioural Science) at the University of Calgary. From 1999 to 2005, Dr. Smith was responsible for information management, service monitoring, and program evaluation for all mental health services of the former Calgary Health Region. Dr. Smith was instrumental in preparing the proposal for the Operational Stress Injury Clinic in Calgary, and from 2005 to 2009, he led the implementation and operation of the Clinic. Dr. Smith is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and a Clinical Supervisor and Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Calgary. He has been a licensed psychologist since 1994. Dr. Smith is currently employed part-time as a consultant with Veterans Affairs canada in south western Ontario.
