Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission focuses on Political Science, Indigenous Studies, or International Relations.
  • The submission is between 2,000 and 4,000 words in length.
  • Personal or identifying information has been removed from the submission (i.e., your name, email, or UCID).
  • The submission is doubled-spaced and uses 12-point Times New Roman font.
  • The submission file is in Microsoft Word document file format (.docx)
  • The submission has been thoroughly proof-read prior to submission.
  • Submissions involving human-based research are accompanied by any required research ethics and approval forms.
  • The author(s) guarantee that the submission is their original in content. Permission has been granted for any third-party material used.
  • The submission has not been previously published or is currently under consideration by another academic journal (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).

Author Guidelines

Authors must:

  • Ensure that their submission adheres to the highest standard of academic integrity and ethical practice.
  • Alert the editor(s) to any potential conflict(s) of interest related to the manuscript and/or study.
  • Submit a manuscript that is an entirely original work, that has not been copied in whole or in part from other works. If the manuscript contains copyrighted materials, the author should inform the editor(s).
  • Ensure that the work of others is cited and/or quoted accurately and completely. It is the author’s responsibility to ensure that their manuscript does not contain any plagiarized content.
  • Represent the research data that underlies the manuscript accurately.
  • Maintain accurate and complete copies of study data associated with the submitted manuscript.
  • If applicable, maintain accurate and complete records of ethics documentation for research involving human subjects from their home institution(s)
  • Provide enough detail in the methodology section of the manuscript to allow for the work to be replicated.
  • Limit authorship to individuals who made a significant contribution to the study and/or manuscript.
  • Report errors or inaccuracies in the manuscript to the editor immediately upon discovery so that efforts can be made to correct or retract the paper.
  • Authors may submit more than one article for publication. However, only one of their submissions may be published.

Research Misconduct Policy (Plagiarism, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Incorrect Citation, Falsified Data, etc.):

The editors of Insights Undergraduate Journal will take reasonable steps to identify and prevent the publication of papers where research misconduct has occurred, including plagiarism, citation manipulation, and data falsification/fabrication, among others. In the event that the editors are made aware of any allegation of research misconduct relating to a published article in their journal, the editor shall follow the Committee on Publication Ethic’s guidelines in dealing with allegations.

Privacy Statement

The data collected from registered and non-registered users of this journal falls within the scope of the standard functioning of peer-reviewed journals. It includes information that makes communication possible for the editorial process; it is used to inform readers about the authorship and editing of content; it enables collecting aggregated data on readership behaviours, as well as tracking geopolitical and social elements of scholarly communication. 

This journal’s editorial team and its hosting service, the University of Calgary Journal Hosting, use this data to guide its work in publishing and improving this journal. Data that will assist in developing this publishing platform may be shared with its developer Public Knowledge Project in an anonymized and aggregated form, with appropriate exceptions such as article metrics. The data will not be sold by this journal, the University of Calgary Journal Hosting, or PKP, nor will it be used for purposes other than those stated here. The authors published in this journal are responsible for the human subject data that figures in the research reported here.
